Our fears are more numerous than our dangers, and we suffer more in our imagination than in reality. ~Seneca
It's only natural to feel fear about the unknown. If we can get ourselves to accept that fear is a normal part of living and expect it to pop up here and there, then we can eliminate the anxiety about it. It's okay to feel the fear just don't allow it to run the show. You know the old saying, "feel the fear and do it anyway?" Repeating that when you're encountering fear face to face helps remind you to not back down from what you're afraid of. The fear is a built-in mechanism we all have in order to protect us from real danger. The problem is when we misconstrue imagined danger with reality. A lot of the times, the imagined fear stems from past negative experiences. Those experiences are locked into our subconscious mind and when faced with anything that makes us fearful, the memories of past painful events resurfaces and the same panic or physical sensations we exerpienced long ago are suddenly back again.
It's at those times of anxiety that our minds convince us that we're in real danger. As soon as you notice that in yourself, immediately begin repeating that the fear is only in your imagination, it's not real, and it's okay if you feel scared. Remind yourself of the reward for doing the thing you fear despite how frightened you feel of it. Practice getting that downright intense determination and confidence that pushes you through the fear.
